Well as some of you know I'm totally in love with my MBP. Well my dad has heard me talk up and down about how great it is and how everything just works and I can keep track of my stuff and so on. Well I saw him this past saturday afternoon and he was asking about the benefits of owning an apple. I gave him the usuall rundown (stability, iLife, OS X, bootcamp, expose) and told him to go check out a Macbook at the apple store in Durham. Well I get a call from my younger brother saying that my dad had just bought a Macbook. Sunday night we spend an hour or so on the phone as I'm trying to help him set it up. Honestly, all he wanted to do was turn on his firewall. He was so excited when the isight fired up for the first time to take his picture for his account, it was really a fun experience. So now my dad is part of the "apple culture". I spoke with him yesterday and he said "I'm still not sure about this computer, but I'm getting there. This whole connect the camera and my photos go to the computer is great!"
So I figured I'd share, not really a major post or anything but fun anyway. Oh yea, if anyone has any suggestions as far as sites he should check out fire away. I told him to join on here and to check out macupdate.com, otherwise I'll just leave him to it. :black: |

Good post. I'm a "relatively" new switcher and it does take some time adopting to the operating system/software, if you're a windows/pc user. Once you understand it, it's great!
There are also some great books, which will help him understand the ins/outs of Tiger and the included software (iLife). "Mac OS X -The missing manual" is great VJ |

unless you are a switcher, in which case the one you listed may be better. |

Yessire that's the one. It's a good buy for someone who has no knowledge of mac basics or just has a thirst for knowledge. |

I just picked up the Mac OS X version of the Missing Mannual this weekend. Seems pretty good so far. I'm still wondering if I should have gone with the Switching to the Mac version instead, but this one was bigger and is the most recommended.

I couldn't find it on Amazon, but this is a GREAT book for any new Mac user with lots of easy to read info, tips, and tricks. The author, Robin Williams(not the actor), is really great at explaining things.
