I'm a little bit lost here.

If I buy a MacBook from Apple I presume that it will come with OS X. Now lets say that I want to install Windows on the machine, what OS will the Mac boot up in when I turn the power on? Does the HD split down the middle or can I weight it to OS X?

Last year I bought a PowerBook because of the reliability factor of Mac's, I was sick of spy ware, viruses, pop ups etc etc (you know the classics of computers.) After using OS X for 8 months I have to say I am VERY impressed with how well it's done. I've had none of that... at all... like ever.

Now I don't really know all the in's and outs about all this but are the new MacBooks susceptible to all the crap that comes with PC's? I presume that the new Mac's can run .exe files? If I run a MacBook with only OS X as the operating system can you still open .exe files?

Cheers for your help.

Andrew

no you can not use .exe files in osx.

when you boot into win xp it is just as prone to all that crud you get on any other computer running xp.

you can get a lot more info on bootcamp from apples website

So If you're in OSX you should be safe from all the crap, it should perform as well as m current powerbook?

I really want to keep the reliability but could do with XP to run some other programs which are XP only

With Universal Applications (Applications written to work both on the Power PC and the Intel) the new MacBook Pro will be a lot faster than your G4 PowerBook. A lot of the applications have already been converted into Universal Binarys. The few that have not like Adobe, will be by next year, but the older non Universal apps will run but under Emulation for now. With Adobe stuff there will be some slowdown but it will still be usable.

OSX will be every bit as safe to run as it is now, but if you boot into Windows, it will be just like on a PC. If you are carefull though, even Windows can be made pretty safe but not as much so as OSX. Since you are only going to run AutoCad on Windows and maybe a few more things for school, you will be fine. You can boot back to OSX and do all your other work and Internet stuff.
