I have a 12" ibook g4 1.33 ghz. It has the 512 mb stick in it. I would like to upgrade the ram. Which would be better? I feel like the 2x512 is better, but I still don't know that much about mac hardware. If you could let me in on some of your experiances with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about Mac architecture but on PC's two smaller sticks generally perform marginally better than a single large stick - every thing else such as design and production quality being equal.

But the performance differences are usually very small and normally unnoticeable in every day use situations so it comes down to personal preference in most cases.

Just make sure the two sticks are the same if going with two.

I pondered this as well, but I just went by what the ibook manual said. It recommended putting a whole 1gb stick in there, so I did.

if you have a 512 already, instead of putting another 512 in, put the 1gb in. This will give you more performance because you have more, the only time you get better performance is if you have 2 512's as opposed to 1gb.. so if you are pondering buying a 1gb or a 512 I would say it would be in your better interest to go 1gb.

Perhaps I was not quite clear on my question. I was wondering if it would be better to have 1.5 gb of ram (1x512 and 1x1024) or 1gb of ram (2x512). I heard that the performance gain is pretty small after 1gb, but I wasn't sure.

Thanks for the input

It all depends on what you use your iBook for. I don't fully use my 1GB, so going to 1.5GB wouldn't help me. It is common for me to use more than 512MB though so the upgrade was worth it.
