hi All, I have had it from two different Apple Store techies a different answer to my question.

Is my Mac Book Pro 15" Mid 2012 fitted with USB 3 ?

And how do I find out ?

I have a USB3 "My Passport" 2TB portable drive which has a USB3 input socket, the cable it came with has a USB 2 plug on the other end, so it can be used on a computer with only USB2, making it downward compatible .

So please do MacBookPro's with USB3 have a USB3 socket in them which will not accept a USB2 plug ?.

Has anybody got an explanation please ?

Tim

Head for everymac.com to find out just about everything hardware wise for every mac.

Try this link - scroll down to physical differences and a couple of videos they have.
But, according to my understanding:
A USB 3 port (female) will accept a USB 2 plug (male).
A USB 2 port (female) will not accept a USB 3 plug (male).

(Will = is suppose to)

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.

I'm so use to having to go look up other people's hardware specs, seems I always forget to let folks know about checking in 'About This Mac' for their own hardware. Thanks for the reminder.
