so i recently purchased my first mac and when it fires up several apps also start for no apparent reason….can someone tell me how o stop them?

It depends on where they're starting from. Try this first:

Open System Preferences, Users & Groups. Highlight your Account on the left, then look to the right at Login items. If you wish to remove any, click on the small lock at the bottom left and enter your Admin password. Then highlight the item and press the small minus button at the bottom.

im an idiot! the little box "reopen windows after restart"........un checked it....problem solved....sorry to waste your time

Alternatively, you could just fully "Quit" (command+Q) each open app before shutting down or restarting. Then you don't have to remember to check or uncheck that box.

16GB iPhone 5, 64GB Wi-Fi only iPad 1st Gen.
