RAM Upgrade help!
I have a Spring 2010 Macbook Pro. It is the 13 inch model with the 2.4 GHz processor, and I have 4 GB of ram

I find that it still works well most of the time, but I'm almost always using up like 80-90% of the ram so I'd like to upgrade in the hopes that this might speed it up a little. What is the maximum amount of ram allowed for my laptop?

edit: Just want to say I'll be taking it to a certified apple tech to get it installed, I just want to know how much I'll be able to upgrade

Go to this page and check things out. Unless I misread something the maximum memory is 8 GB. Check the Model Identifier number for your Mac and match it to the chart.

The page also explains how to find the identifier number.

I have model 7,1 which should support 16 gb, tho the site suggests this is sort of off-label support.
MacBook, MacBook Pro

Do you know if there are any drawbacks to adding that much ram?

If it's the 13" MacBook Pro 13.3" 2.4GHz (Model ID: 7,1 only) then according to them it should be able to take up to 16 GB.

By "off label" do you mean that this is more memory than Apple officially lists as the maximum? If so, then yes it is "off label". Their recommendations have been pretty accurate. I have 8 GB in my MacBook Pro that "officially" takes a maximum of 4GB. After several months I haven't had any issues. Their recommendation is probably accurate.

I suspect that what has happened is that in the last three years chips have become available that have the same specs as the machine was built for but have a higher capacity. If you are nervous about it give them a call. They'be been pretty good about answering questions in the past.

And suggest using Mac specialists OWC or Crucial to purchase modules from. Be very wary busing sellers on auction sites.
