rMBP desktops & Wallpaper

Mac Specs: Early 2010 13" MBP; Late 2010 13" MBA

Good day everyone. I have a 13" rMBP on 10.8. When I have one desktop open with whatever wallpaper and add a second the wallpaper carries over. When I switch wallpapers on one of the two desktops it doesn't carry over if both are already open. I don't remember this happening on my other computer but I can't be 100% sure. Just wanted to ask the experts.
