Question about wireless on an older iBook

My girlfriend has an iBook that's about 3 to 4 years old. It doesn't have any wireless on board.
My question is - do I need to use the Airport to give her wireless or can I buy a USB wireless card made by 3Com?
I don't have the machine details right now, but if that matters, let me know and I'll get them.

I don't know, regarding your specific question. But why would you want to? Why have a card hanging off of the iBook? An airport card tucked snugly in the machine keeps the iBook eminently more portable.
