Huge difference in drives and speed of the machine related thereto. My 13" MB Air with 8G Ram, 2G i7 dual core processor, and 512 G SSD is about eight times faster than my 15" MB Pro with the same amount of memory, 2.66 G i7 processor and 500 G 7200 RPM HDD.

If it were my money, I'd go with the MB Air because of the speed and portability but specify it now for upgrades as you won't be doing that later.

Depends on the gaming, as neither are "gaming machines".

You need to get the best video card you can (top end 15") before you really want to think about gaming.

MBP 17" 2011, 2.3GHz Intel Quad-Core i7, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1GB RAM
MacMini 2011, 2.7GHz Intel Dual-Core i7, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256MB RAM
iPhone 5S 64GB, iPad Gen3 32GB WiFi, iPod Nano Gen6 8GB, Apple TV 3 & 2
