specs quickly:
g4 1.25gig, 60 gig drive, airport extreme, tiger, extra 1 gig ram stick problem: earlier today my ibook was working perfectly fine at school. as soon as i get home and open it about half our later (let it warm up to room temp). it just freezes. i do a force reboot by holding the power button down, freezes again at login. and again afte ri managed to login once. i thought maybe it's because of my ram (although the ram has been working fine for months now), i try removing it. boot up. it doesnt even get to the login screen. after the apple with the loading circle dissapears, it's just a blue screen. i've tried rebooting and nothing. i've tried just letting the computer sit turned off for a couple of hours. same ****. any suggestions? or thoughts as to what could be wrong? did my hd suddenly mess up? =/ |

fsck -fy <enter> (Don't type <enter>, press it!) Let it run though the hard disk and see if it can find any errors, f(ile)s(ystem)c(hec)k does a much more rigorous check than Disk Utility can, keep running it till you can clear all errors it brings up -- of course if after 20 runs it still has errors there are issues. Do you have another Mac or know someone who has one to run this baby in target disk mode, to recover your files? And have you tried booting from the iBook's restore CD by holding down C on startup, and see if it boots into that OK? Vicky |
