Hello Everyone,

I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on a used Macbook Pro off of craigslist. The guy offered for me to come check out the machine and inspect it before purchasing. So what should I check?

So far I have:
1. Run it unplugged to see how the battery holds up
2. Wifi / Bluetooth works correctly
3. Bring USB Drive to test USBS
4. Bring a DVD to test CD drive

What else should I check?

Thanks,

--Asif

I would check how many times the battery has been charged (cycled).

 iMac 27" 2.7Ghz i5
 MacBook Pro 15" 2Ghz i7
 iPhone 4 16GB
 iPad (White, 32GB, 3rd Gen)

check for hinge can hold your screen up, another words the lid stays in one place.
check if the hard drive and ram is the specified one. with apple menu you can see the configuration.
check the serial number also matches the system one and under body.

And get the original system install discs if at all possible.

Also have a read of this link, particularly about Coconut and it is available using Google:-

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Check to make sure all the keys on keyboard work
Wifi works (that's a given)
Coconut Battery is great to check the battery
Make sure charger works

As long as you do all that you should be fine. I've bought about 60 on craigslist in the past 7 or so months and haven't run into any big problems with any of them that wasn't priorly known about it.
