Greetings:
It's finals week eve and my 15" 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro was knocked off a table onto concrete while in sleep mode; no surprise, it stopped working. Upon pressing the power button, the optical drive makes its usual start up sound, the front light comes on dull and stays on, that is it. Both of these cease if I hold the power button for 5+ seconds. Screen stays black, no fans, no hard drive noise. I've tried all the "hold these keys to reset this" and no changes. I have reseated the RAM and opened the case to inspect for physical damage, I found none. My internet scouring has suggested I destroyed my logic board. Any other ideas? If not: 1. Has anyone else had this occur and had a logic board failure confirmed? 2. Is there anyway to confirm a logic board failure without traveling to an apple store? (nearest one is an hour away) 3. Does anyone know how much it costs to replace a logic board via apple care? 4. If I gamble it is the logic board and overnight a replacement is it too much to hope I can "pop it in", power on, and resume business? I apologize for any re-posting or disillusions of simple solutions, I'm running on Redbull and 27's and desperately short on time, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. -Cheers |

My advice is get it to an Apple store and have them diagnose it. It may not be a defective logic board (if you're lucky). The fall may have destroyed the hard drive which of course is also a disaster because that means possible loss of data.
Anyway, we can speculate but it's best to let Apple look at it even if you have to drive an hour to get to the store. Make sure you call ahead and get an appointment first before you make the drive. By the way, replacing a logic board is expensive. And since you dropped the computer, it's not covered under Apple care. That's known as accidental damage. |
