I left my macbook pro at home when I went on holiday, when I came back it seems like my brother saw fit to borrow it it and break one of the keys.

He said that the key 'popped off' and when he tried to push it back in the hinge broke. No big deal, but when I went to look at it, it wasn't just the hinge that was broken. One of the metal 'claws' on the base of keyboard that the hinge snaps into has been bent so it's not in the right position and the key won't snap into place now.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Take it and your brother to the Apple store and let him pay the repair bill.

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

I'd force him to pay if he had any money to his name.
Do you think it'll be costly to fix?

We've had a couple of folks tell us that their local Apple store repaired the broken key for free. You too might get lucky. Take it on in and see what they say.

It just looks scary, but its pretty simple, all you need is a plier, and just squeeze the metal tab until its straight, don't bent it and it will be fine, its kinda fragile so you don't want to do it too many times, if you don't feel comfortable, the apple store solution is a good idea, but also check if the macbook key or hinge is ok, if either part of it is broken, you can buy a new macbook key Hopes this has been helpful.
