Okay, so I acquired a PowerBook G4 yesterday, which currently has Tiger on it - I want to get Leopard installed though.

I can't find my original install DVD, but I do have an ISO on my backup drive, which I burnt to a DVD-R DL (my PowerBook G4 drive was a DVD-R).

Problem is the disc just ejects after a few seconds on the PowerBook. On my PC, it loads up the BootCamp installer - so the disc is fine. I purchased an external slimline DVD+/-RW drive today, which I tested on the PC - again works fine... However when I connect this drive to the PowerBook G4, the disc just keeps trying to read, but not doing anything.

Any ideas how I can go about getting Leopard on this machine? I also tried the Remote Install, via a guide - however there's no "Install Assistant" for Windows, so everything falls through at that point.

Would appreciate any ideas (asides from buying a new set of discs - they're an insane price and I do have a legitimate copy, somewhere [probably in storage knowing my luck]).

Kind Regards

Keep in mind that in order to boot a PPC machine from an external optical drive, the drive should be Firewire capable. Some folks have had success with certain USB drives, but Apple says Firewire.

Ah... That would be an issue - except that I can't even get that far, the disc won't read via either the built-in drive or the external drive whilst in Tiger, let alone trying to boot from the disc...

I'll have a look into a firewire to USB adapter, but I'm a little concerned that the disc doesn't read on either drive on the PowerBook regardless.

Question one is the disk a full retail install DVD and not a silver grey coloured model specific disc? Question two the PowerBook has an 867MHx processor, or faster, to install Leopard?

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

The installation media is the retail version and system is a 1.67GHz PPC.
