MacBook shuts down when battery drains.

Hi,

I've got an old MacBook, I think it's 2006? I got it secondhand will a clean bill of health and a new battery from a local Mac specialist company 2-3 years ago.

I had the cracking top case issue about a year ago, which the Apple store sorted out, and at the same time they ran a diagnostic check and told me the battery wasn't working properly, so they replaced it there and then.

Everything's been fine, but recently (and it may have been since a software update, but I can't be sure of that) whenever the battery goes, the MacBook completely shuts down, the little white breathing light goes out, and it needs to be restarted via the power button. Previously, the little white light stayed on and I just woke the MacBook up again by pressing a key.

I've always let it do that, as I believed charging it before the battery went to 0%, would decrease the life of the battery.

I'm running 10.6.8 and I had the RAM and Hard drive upgraded just after the top case and battery was replaced last year. (Not that I think those upgrades have got anything to do with it!) I've allowed the battery to drain completely, left it switched off for 48 hours, fully charged it, then charged it for a further 10 hours. I was hoping that might help if it was a battery issue? But looking at the battery specs, it all looks ok:
