Im selling my Macbook. I will be hoping to advertise it this week and want to do a fresh install of leopard (the discs that came with the Macbook).

Im not asking how to do it, just wondering if anyone had some important advice before I go ahead with this.

Would be great to hear.

Take one more final backup :-)
and don't forget to bundle the original disks with the machine when you sell it.

Seems pretty simple to me! Still hesitating to do it...just need to check I have all my personal stuff backed up and then I may re-install Microsoft Office and a couple other programmes for the next user.

I would not re-install any apps ..... let the new owner decide what he wants to use his diskspace for . -_-

Every time I have sold a PC, or passed it off to a family member, I did a final backup of data (full in some cases, just the profile in others) and then did a full format/wipe before putting the OS that came on the machine back on it. Makes it clean for the new user and allows you the option of keeping the software and licenses for yourself if you want.

I agree, when buying a used computer, generally I want to buy it with a fresh install on the OS rather then it have pre-install programmes, as its not a problem for me to install what I want.

AFTER you do a last backup, I recommend doing a low-level (zero-out) format. It takes a lot longer than a simple format, but will prevent anyone with data recovery utilities from recovering personal info. In the days of OS9 (and earlier), when the low-level format was not so thorough, I would format the drive, then copy a bunch of junk files to overwrite my drive, then format it again before installing a clean OS and selling the computer.

Call me paranoid, but they ARE out to get me!

haha, I can see your point. Its better to be safe then sorry. Thanks for your advice. I have not advertised it yet so I got the time to do all the appropriate steps. Just clearing out some space on my hard drive at the moment getting it ready for to back up!
