I have a 2009 macbook pro,
Model Identifier: MacBookPro 5,3

When I use my HDMI output to play movies the audio doesnt play on my tv. The audio plays on my computer.

I go to system preferences > sound > output
It doesnt show that my computer supports my tv for audio.

My friend has a lil newer macbook and when he goes to system preferences > sound > output....... it supports audio for the same tv, and mine doesnt.

my friends macbook pro model is
Model Identifier: MacBookPro 6,2

Can I download something to support this feature?
QUOTE Thanks

This is a hardware thing. Older MacBook Pros did not support audio from the mini-displayport. You can get an adapter that will pull audio from the USB port and video from the mini-displayport, and combine them to an HDMI cable.

No ycl1688, that usually doesn't work. When using HDMI on a tv, the tv looks for the audio on the same port, not the audio in port. If he was using a PC input, then maybe.

let me take it back, I plug in the extra audio cable from mbp speaker out jack to the audio in on tv for the mid 2009 mbp. the mini port adapter is connected to HDMI cable to tv's 1DVI (samsung
tv model # UN46D6050)
