I have a few questions about replacing my late 2008 MacBook's HD. It finally gave out last night, i've had it looked at by a genius just to have a second opinion before I made any fix.

I was given another stores business card from a genius as an option to get it fixed with a bigger HD for less than what Apple would charge me for. I watched a few videos of how easy it would be to install a new HD, it looks easy enough, not hard at all.

So my questions are, is it worth it going with this store that will replace my 160GB HD with a 320GB with free data transfer for $199? If I do it myself I might go with a fresh install, would I have to start with Leopard and work myself up to Lion? I've never replaced a HD hence the questions, is it as easy as popping the HD in and it reading my disc for installation?
QUOTE Thanks

You could replace the HDD yourself and do the data transfer for a lot less. However, that's up to you. The $199 price is not too bad considering that includes the new hard drive and labor for the installation plus data transfer.
