I have a few questions about replacing my late 2008 MacBook's HD. It finally gave out last night, i've had it looked at by a genius just to have a second opinion before I made any fix.
I was given another stores business card from a genius as an option to get it fixed with a bigger HD for less than what Apple would charge me for. I watched a few videos of how easy it would be to install a new HD, it looks easy enough, not hard at all. So my questions are, is it worth it going with this store that will replace my 160GB HD with a 320GB with free data transfer for $199? If I do it myself I might go with a fresh install, would I have to start with Leopard and work myself up to Lion? I've never replaced a HD hence the questions, is it as easy as popping the HD in and it reading my disc for installation? |

You could replace the HDD yourself and do the data transfer for a lot less. However, that's up to you. The $199 price is not too bad considering that includes the new hard drive and labor for the installation plus data transfer.
