Thanks for that.

I followed the link to the EFI updates and have the latest ROM on my 2009 white Macbook 5,2

So I might give it a go, at worst I will have to downgrade to 6 gig but if it works then 8 GIG is mine

I checked on one of the models mentioned in the article link (the 15" MBP 2.4ghz)...and the folks Over at Everymac.com say this:

"*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM. There seem to be a number of credible sources. I have ordered the memory and will report back.

I'm amazed this hasn't had more coverage here. For me this is a brilliant discovery because I can now allocate 3gb to XP under VMware and still have 5gb left for OSX. Add in an SSD and I can have a totally transformed machine for about £300 as CPU speed isn't a huge concern for me!
