I use Google Chrome extensively and find that, depending on the number of open tabs, can cause slowdowns. I have experienced it several times while having a number of different programs running. I have checked the amount of RAM and find no problems. While I never shut down my computer, I do restart Chrome every day. I have not had the sluggishness since doing this. You may want to give this a whirl.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer! |

Normally it shouldn't take two hours...it usually only takes a 5 minutes or less for me. If it's been a long time...maybe 10-15 minutes. But you may use your computer differently than me...so who knows.
The repair permissions process may also depend on how big the hard drive is. I have a 160gig HD...if yours is larger...than that may somewhat explain the longer repair permissions time. As Harry may be suggesting...there may be some hard drive issues...thus you may want to head back to Apple to have them check it out. But even if the "Repair Permissions" says it will take 2 hours...I would give it a shot first before visiting Apple. - Nick - Computer slow, too many "beachballs", read this: Beachballs - Computer seems slower than it used to?
