Resolution with External Display

If I connect an external monitor to my 15" PB will I be able to have a resolution higher than the 1280x854 I am currently at? If you have an external monitor hooked up to your PB post up what resolution you're at!

I have an NEC 1760NX LCD hooked up to my PB and its resolution is 1280x1024 and that is the highest that monitor will go. My PB's screen is set to 1440x960.
