MacBook does not shut down

My MacBook does not shut down 6 times out 10 and I have to power shut it. It was bought December 2008.

Mac Specs: 15" MB Pro, 2.66 i7 ; 11 MBA 1.8GZ i7; 13"MBA 2GZ i7 8 GB mem 512GB SSD, 2 iPad3s, 1 iPad Mini

with my late 2010 2.66 GHZ i7. I just hold down the power button most times as that is the only way to get it to shut down. I do not have the problem with my mid 2011 MBAir 1.8 Ghz Dual Core i7.

First thing to try is resetting the SMC. See the following Apple KB article for instructions: LINK

changed nothing. Still need to power off with the power button.

If the machine is covered by Apple care, make an appointment and take it on in. If the SMC reset didn't work, the problem may be logic related which is something Apple will have to sort out.
