Note: I am not a macbook user forgive my ignorance. Daughter has a macbook (I believe 1,1). Need to replace the DVD drive. Without 1st removing the drive - how do I determine what new drive to purchase? Can I run a command, enter the macbook SN in a web site etc. ? Do I need to purchase an apple DVD drive? Any help is appreciated in identifying what and where to purchase.
QUOTE Thanks

Click on the Apple icon in the Menu Bar and select About this Mac. Should have enough particulars to find a replacement drive from this site.

Upgrade Apple Mac SuperDrive / Optical Drive

And, if you go to ifixit.com you can find detailed instructions for removal/replacement.

I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .
