Macbbok Password Help

Hello All,
Friend has a macbook pro, her son changed the password and can't remember what it was. Her apple care has expired. Any suggestions? Fresh install with a disk? Thank you.

A fresh install is not needed to change the password. Just use the original DVD that came with the machine to boot with. Once booted from the DVD, enter Utilities and you can set a new password.
