I have a MBP and run windows via parallels 6 and it works perfectly but the temp of the machine sits constantly at 80 degrees.
is this ok or should i look to lower this temps ?
if i should try to lower the temp, how ?

The temp can go slightly higher when i am coding software but this temp is 80 when simply browsing the net and doing emails etc.

80 degrees seems perfectly normal for a macbook pro since you're running parallels, im at 70 degrees and i only have chrome and word open. If you're really worried install smcfancontrol and increase your fans speed to cool down the system, also raising the mbp slightly off your desk kinda helps too

Let's get some clarity here - metric or fahrenheit? 80°F seems very low and 80°C is higher than normal but reasonable especially if you're running Parallels with a VM open.

As many will note, your machine was designed to monitor temperatures and respond accordingly. Your machine will shut itself down before anything bad happens.

How are you guys measuring this, with an external thermometer or is there an internal reading app ?

There are quite a few temperature monitors. A quick Google search will provide you with many. Note though that there's little reason to need one - your Mac was designed to manage the temperature and having a monitor only tends to cause paranoia.
