I need help. I have fallen heir to an old iBolok G4 running Mac osX Ver 10.4.11, 1.2 GH, 512 MB 5DRam. Don't know what all that means of course. Anyway, I'd like to sweep it all, and upgrade this little notebook, so I need install disks I guess and I just don't know what else. Can someone give me some direction?

The newest OS you can update to is OS 10.5 (10.5.8). e-Bay is probably your best place to purchase an OS install disk (will cost you about $100US). You could also stick with OS 10.4.11 already installed on it if that cost is too much.

The only other upgrades you can do are the ram and hard drive.

That model can take up to 1.25GB of memory and would sure make for an improvement.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

thanks folks. harryb2448 and pigoo3 I didn't quite understand. Sorry I'm retired, and old and trying to stay as informed as possible, but things seem to change by the minute in this computer industry.
If I can spend $100 I should go to ebay for install disks for 10.5.8? (Does this have an animal name?) If I install 10.5.8 will it be very slow, or do I also need to upgrade ram and hard drive?

Or I can stay with the 10.4.11 and then upgrade ram and hard drive? Does that OS have an animal name?

10.4 is Tiger, 10.5 is Leopard. If you do opt for leopard you need to max out the RAM. It will make for smoother computing!

If you need help as what RAM to purchase, let us know.
