The other day I put my computer to sleep and then it wouldn't turn on again; I noticed that the little white light didn't turn on so I tried turning it on again but I just got a blue screen, I turned it off and it would start up but the logging in window for Tiger never appeared, just the blue screen, I inserted the Tiger install cd and it gave me the option to install so I guess things weren't that bad. As I am new to Mac I didn't know what to do so I took it to CompUSA, where I bought the Powerbook, and the guy said to leave it there for him to check it out, that it would take about a week and I took it home again to see if I could fix it, installed Tiger again and it works now.. what I wanna know is, is this normal? Could there be something wrong with my hardware? The only unusual thing that happened while I was putting the computer to sleep: unfortunately I still use the 56k modem to connect to the internet (no broadband in my area yet) so at the same time it was terminating the internet connection, I took out the phone line off the computer. I don't think it had anything to do with it but I don't know how fragile these computers are, I think I need a tutorial lol.

Second question is.. last night I put the computer to sleep and I noticed that the intensity of the white light kept increasing and decreasing, I don't know if this is normal, I never paid attention to it before. Thanks!

To answer the easy question, when it goes to sleep it is normal for the white light to increase and decrease its intensity. Just look down at your tummy and watch it go out and then in, out and in, out and in. It is like breathing for your mac or it simulates that. It serves no purpose other than the simulation of sleep for a human.

As far as your other problem I would have just left it with CompUSA. It could be a lemon which would be bad hardware. You should still get that checked out especially if it happens again.

one tip to prevent this is. say you are going to use your ipod later unplug your ipod before you put your computer to sleep. dont sleep the computer then remove the ipod for some reason computers freak out when they wake up and stuff isnt where it was when it went to sleep. that situation applies to just about every usb or firewire device.

Is your area, by chance, called Gehenna? Hades? ****?

'cause when it rains, you know it pours.
