Mac book Pro question

I purchased my Mac Book Pro last year Aug 29th and I was out of the country and now it is sept. 7 and I called apple care and they will not give it to me after the person that i talked with talked to a manager and so on.

I have read you can get it on ebay and other places cheaper however if I do get it will it work for my computer because it is past a year?

Thanks for your help I am a mac newbie

AppleCare can only be purchased within the first year at the date and after no go ,missed getting it on my iPhone by a week.
