Hi!
I have a macbook pro(2010) connected to an external lcd monitor.
What i would like to do is make the external monitor primary, and turn off the macbook lcd BUT still use the macbook pros keyboard(so open but turned off lcd).

I hope i wrote this clear enough.

Thank you for help in advance.

You can't. In order to operate the MBP in that mode (internal monitor off) and make the external primary, you need an external keyboard and mouse or trackpad.

Otherwise, the MBP display will stay lighted. Prior to 2008 it was possible with some models by using F7 to switch to an external and making it primary, but for some reason, Apple discontinued that with the 2008 models onward.

Actually i just found a way:

- you shut down yout macbook
- you start it and when you see the apple logo you close it
- you wait until the external monitor starts working
- then you open it
