I have a Macbook Pro: 2010 Model (MB470LL/A).
Specs say max 4GB memory (official) and up to 6 GB (unofficially). However, I just found this site that states that it can handle up to 8 GB with a minor upgrade (MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 15" (Unibody) Specs (Late 2008/Unibody, MB470LL/A, MacBookPro5,1, A1286, 2255) @ EveryMac.com). How high should I go? I find the prices not limiting, and found this at Newegg for 8GB (not sure if that would fit in my model): CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Memory for Apple Model CMSA8GX3M2A1066C7 Last edited by Trolle; 08-08-2011 at 12:12 PM. IMHO...easy answer. If you can afford 8 gig...get 8 gig!
![]() But remember...to install 8 gig of ram...Everymac.com also mentions: "if updated to Boot ROM Version MBP51.007E.B05 and running MacOS X 10.6 Snow Leopard." - Nick - Computer slow, too many "beachballs", read this: Beachballs - Computer seems slower than it used to? Will installing past 4GB (I assume this is the "Apple max" for his Macbook Pro) void an AppleCare agreement? I am in the same situation. On Crucial.com's memory scanner, it says that the max RAM that can be installed in 4GB. However, with research online, such as this thread, the literal max (with the right software upgrades) appears to be 8GB.
I know that Apple says that installing RAM does not void a warranty. However, if I install 8GB, will it? I plan on calling Apple later today to ask, but you seem to be very knowledgable. ![]() Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Vic |

Not at all... your warranty won't apply to the RAM itself, obviously, but the rest of the system would be covered. The only gotcha would be if the computer were physically damaged while installing the new RAM. That's not a defect, that's incidental damage, and might not be covered. Barring that though, you should be fine.
