Ok i got my 13" macbook pro 2 years ago (i think) I got it right when snow leopard was released and they began running it on the new macbook pros.

Ever since then i always had a WIFI problem and i always looked it up but as i researched it always happened with all MACS, but now im just starting to get sick of it.

I can be connected to my Wifi at home. Shut my computer off for a couple hours, come back turn it back on and when it goes to connect to the WIFI itll have a "!" and say Internet Connection Timed out..... even though itll show my wifi with full service right there.. I then have to go all the way down to the basement and unplug my router and restart it.

I am a windows guy and always have been, but Mac does have some good traits.. The bottom line is i didnt pay so much money for a laptop to have to suffer with this problem every I LOVE PRETTY BARBIES day of my life. I got a mac because i love the look and the battery life is outstanding. Im going into my 2nd year of college now and im thinking about upgrading to the 15" macbook pro but im strongly hessitating doing that seeing that i might have the same problems i am having now, AND I CANT FIND ANY SOLLUTION.

THE NEWEST PROBLEM!

My fan is DANCING PONIES loud. My computer used to run so quiet, now it sounds like my Gaming Desktop PC with 6 fans in it. Its quite rediculous and annoying when im trying to focus on work, and paperwork.

Ive googled trying to find sollutions but i havent found any fixes. If you guys can please help me out it would be greatly appreciated, cause i really want to get a new macbook pro but i want this one working fine before i do so..

Thanks

-Ross

I suspect there's a corrupted preference.

You can always remove preferences, they will be recreated on boot. In this case you'd have to resetup your networking. Here's the preference files I suspect should be ditched.

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.identification.plist

So you'd delete these, then reboot.

For the fan, try resetting the SMC

Two things immediately come to mind:

1. WiFi problems are not inherent to all Macs. In fact, I seldom have trouble re-connecting to WiFi after my machine has gone to sleep. In your case, I suspect you're using deprecated encryption for your WiFi and/or disabling SSID broadcast. Make sure you're using WPA encryption at a minimum (NOT WEP), or better yet WPA2 encryption if available. If you're not broadcasting SSID, turn it back on. Disabling SSID broadcast is a laughable security measure at best. No WiFi snoop uses standard WiFi connection managers to find hotspots. Any decent WiFi scanner will spot a WAP with a disabled SSID broadcast.

2. Over time, dust accumulates in the intake/exhaust area on all laptops. This can cause the fans to work harder to circulate air. If you haven't ever done it, I recommend using a can of compressed air to clear the exhaust area (at the hinge, below the display).

Additionally, your fans may be running more often because you have a program that starts at boot and consumes a lot of CPU cycles. Your machine works harder and as a result gets warmer. Things like animated desktop backgrounds are infamous for this, as is Flash-based websites and badly written Dashboard widgets.

Start Activity Monitor when the fans are spinning particularly high and sort the process list by CPU utilization to try to narrow down the problematic app.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

I just looked in my Library and Preferences folder and unfortunately i couldnt find these files. Are you sure thats where they are located? If you could provide further assistance that would be greatly appreciated.

Look in your home folder / Library

Not in MacIntosh HD / Library

Your home folder would be the same as your log in and would have a house icon next to it.
