Differences between October 2010 MBA and July 2011 MBA

I have one primary question regarding the speed improvements to the new Macbook Air released today.

How is the new 13.3 inch 1.7 GHz i7 Macbook Air faster than the old 13.3 inch 1.86 core 2 duo Macbook Air.

Useless staff

I visited the Apple store today to ask, talked to three employees and all the could tell me was that the new one is definitely faster. I am trying to decide if buying a October 2010 model is my best option since the hard drive did not get an improvement with the new model. Processor speed is the only factor I am considering.

there is also thunderbolt and better camera and better graphics card I believe...

I think the better graphics is a result of the i7 processor, I could care less about thunderbolt or a better camera though.

Have not seen any benchmarks on the iSeries in the new MBA. Intel only announced them a little over 2 weeks ago.

But, first off, the iSeries flat out performs the C2D by a fair margin on every test I've seen at a similar clock speeds.

Secondly, the i7 in the new MBA is a hyperthreaded chip - meaning 4 threads vs 2 threads of the older C2D of the last MBA. I would be surprised to see a benchmark of the two chips you're talking about and not see the i7 stomp the C2D by a margin of somewhere around 50%.

Of course if you're using it for a email, internet, office machine... that won't really matter.
