Bookmarks Bar Gone before my eyes

It just disappeared while looking at it off a brand new 17 inch Powerbook. Can't get it back even syncing with my Imac. Can't add a new bookmark to the bookmark bar either but can to the bookmark menu. My bookmarks are years old off of several computers. Is there a way to bring them back and what the **** caused this?

Plus the bookmarks field is gone at the upper right of the bookmarks bar.
