Hey all:

Have had my MBP for two weeks now and I have if finally set up or so I thought. I do a lot of photography and I use 4gb sd cards. My MBP wont read them or recognize them at all. Either on the mac side or parallels side. It like it doesn't exist. I bought the MBP for with the slot for this very reason. Am I missing something??

Thanks

Regardless, the card should still show up in the Finder/Sidebar. If it does not, and it's a known good card, I would suspect the OP has a faulty SD reader slot.

Are you certain the card is oriented properly and completely seated? If so, I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar and have them take a look.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

I know the card is seated properly. What is the genius bar?? And is that a warranty issue? Or something I have to pay out of pocket for?? Thanks

Yes, it would definitely be a warranty issue:

Hey I had a similar issue. Have a 2011 MBP and couldn't get a card from a digital camera to work in there for about a month and then I bought a newer one from my local camera place and gave it a try and it recognized it. It was a 8 gig ProMaster SD code 5926 if that helps...good luck. Sounds similar to my initial problem.

my guess is a bent pin in the reader.

+1 for the bent pin theory. I've seen that too many times which is why I hate to use SD cards for storage. The reader on the MBP is oriented in such a way that it's possible to "jam" the SD in there if you're not careful.
