could someone tell me what i am paying an extra £300 for with the 15-inch: 2.2 GHz mbp instead of the 15-inch: 2.0 GHz one?

I dont play games(well sometimes), and mostly use it for photoshop, and have loads of files open and applications open at the same time.

cheers.

The biggest difference is the improved GPU on the 2.2 GHz MBP - a significant improvement in performance there. Everything else is relatively equal - beside the obvious 200MHz boost in CPU speed. It's about a $300 US difference - not sure about UK pricing. I think you also get a bigger stock HDD if you so choose.

This link shows some of the GPU performance differences The GPU Comparison The article on Anandtech will tell you more than you probably want to know about the different models.
