I have Powerbook G4 with 1.3 GB Ram. I need to upgrade to higher Mac OS system to utilize softwares and hardwares.

Currently I have 10.3.9. Anyone have OS with 10.4 or higher?

Which one will work best with my laptop?

10.4 (tiger) or 10.5 (leopard) are you only options since you are still on the power pc. I would just with which ever one you can fine a disk for. Tiger might run a bit better though.

Check around on your local Craigslist listings, or on eBay, and see if you can find good deals. 10.4 or 10.5 will both run fine. I'd buy either one, based on price and availability in my area.

Before spending your cash check out the specs of the Powerbook. To run Leopard OS X.5 you need a processor speed of at least 867MHz, and early G4 PB's came in at 400MHz. Also make sure you have adequate memory, 1GB minimum.

Whatever you purchase make sure you buy only the full retail DVD version, a black coloured disc. Do not buy silver/grey so called install, update, upgrade, drop in etc etc discs as these will ONLY work with the model machine they came with new.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
