Hey guys, I figured I'd see if anyone has any ideas for my problem before I take it to the store. Anyway, my Macbook Pro has been randomly shutting down in the middle of use. Usually after it shuts down like this I have trouble getting it back on - It usually will shut down again while in the process of loading up. If I wait a little while after it shuts down before turning it on again it seems to load up fine. The computer is less than 1 year old. Any thoughts on the problem or solutions? Thanks

Just curious if you monitor your cpu temp?

I do not, do you think this may be a case of overheating?

It could be overheating, as alluded to by tdll1313, and it could be a bad battery (it's possible). Does this usually happen when you run CPU intensive processes/apps? Does this happen when you're on battery power?

I rarely use battery power so it doesn't have anything to do with that. It does seem more likely to shut down when I am running intensive apps although it has done it when I'm just watching a YouTube video.

OK so I just installed an app to check my cpu temp. It was at 40' Celsius while I was just searching the internet on Chrome and it shut down on me.

That's nowhere near hot enough to be overheating. My MacBook has reached temperatures in excess of 80°C.

Honestly, at this point, your best bet is to take it into Apple. If the shutting down truly is random and not caused by anything noticeable (only ever happens when you use a particular app for instance), it could very well be a hardware issue.
