Hello-

I am new to Mac and just got a Mac Book Pro, i7 processor, 500 GB storage, 8 GB ram, with all the bells and whistles. I also use a PC for work. I have a home office setup with a Kensington dock that connects to two external monitors. I just plug in my PC (close the lid) and it mirrors on one screen and I use the other as an additional display.

I am trying to set this same set-up with my Mac. I have downloaded the displaylink drivers and the screens work. Problem is that I can't mirror just one external screen, its either all mirrored or all seperate. Also, I cannot close the lid and keep the external screens on. I read up on some ideas, and downloaded insomniax to try to fix this problem but it didnt help. I also called Apple and the guy said that he didnt know of a way to solve this problem. It's driving me crazy not being able to use the setup like my PC does.

Please help me. Also I am new to this forum, so please let me know if I need to move it to a different topic. Thanks

Whenever I wanted to hook up my Macbook Pro to my projector I would just turn InsomniaX on and shut the display/key lights off and shut the Macbook and it would stay on just fine. Are you sure that, not only are you running InsomniaX, but you are actually turning it on? Be sure because if you're running it correctly, his face should be like "****** off" instead of "calm".

Let me know if that solves the 'staying on' issue....as for the mirroring of the screens, I'm not sure exactly what you're looking to do, but I'm sure someone else here will be glad to help.

I sis the extended and mirrored desktop think with a different device that also uses displaylink adapters. Maybe the same procedure will work for you. Check out this review and read the swction that begins with "That's cool enough". ATPM 15.08 - Review: OWC USB 2.0 Display Adapter

Let us know if this works for you.

Thanks, man I knew I would find my answer here. Now I have the mirror option on one monitor and the other to use as a seperate screen. Now if I can only get the computer to work with the lid closed. The insomniax 2 man is on and he has his angry face. When I close the lid the computer still runs. The monitors pop up for like 5 seconds when I use the mouse to wake it up but then they go black again. Anyone have a different solution? Thanks again

I would test it out again, but I lost my mini-display>HDMI adapter

All I could say is try checking your display settings and see if there are any options for the displays in there.
