DVI to HDMI No Signal

I have a 2006 Macbook Pro with a DVI output (not mini-DVI) and I am trying to hook it up to my Samsung TV and there is no signal. I've been searching all over the internet and haven't found anything that directly helps. I've read a few suggestions about changing the output resolution, but I can't find anywhere to do that. Everything I find is 1920x1080. My computer recognizes that it is hooked up to the TV, but the TV has no clue what's going on. Help me!! I've been at this for hours and don't want to give into this. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
