Mac Specs: PowerBook G4 17" 1.67 GHz 1.5 GB RAM 100GB 60GB 5G iPod

I haven't bought my 17" Powerbook yet
If I just want 1.5 GB of RAM(insted of 2GB), could I have a 512MB stick preinstalled with a free slot and then install a 1 GB stick myself?
