while surfing the internet today the screen all of a sudden scrambled between the two sites I was using. I closed it and then the screen was dim but you could still see the scrambled screen just barely. So it wasn't off. Is this typical to freeze like that and also what do I do in the event it happens again?

Welcome to the Mac Forums.
Please include the year and model of your MacBook and which version of OS X it's currently running. From your description of the problem it's difficult to say if it was caused by software or hardware. Is the machine OK now? |
