I'm trying to recover or reset the account password on a Macbook Pro but it doesn't seem to detect keyboard input until it's 100% booted to the login window.

Any ideas?

I've tried Apple+S to get into single user mode and C with the install disk in to boot to the install disk but it just comes up to the login window every time. I've also tried plugging in a USB keyboard but still no luck.

G'day anmd welcome to the forums.

Do you mean reset the password?

If so, and you know the current password, go into System Preferences > Accounts and you can change the password there.

If you do not know the password, and it is not firmware protected, boot from the install disc.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Thanks for the welcome. I guess I should be more clear in that there is only one account on the computer and I don't know the password to that account.

Is there another way to boot to the install disk besides holding down c while the computer boots?

Try booting the machine and holding down the OPTION (alt) key as soon as you hear the POST chime. Keep holding until you see the spinning circle beneath the Apple.

If that doesn't work, the computer may be protected by a firmware password. Post back and let us know.
