Hello all,

I just recently purchased my first Mac from Best Buy. It is the 13" 2.4 model.

I have never owned a Mac before up to this point I do like it. Very different from Windows but I'm learning and I have been browsing different forums on the web in regards to "making the switch."

My primary concern when I made this purchase was longevity. I want this notebook to last me for awhile.

I am just curious of you're opinion on this: Is this Core 2 Duo going to hold out on me? I don't think upgrading the hard drive will be much of an issue, however, the only other model I would consider is the 15 inch i5. Is it really worth the additional $500 (or whatever it is) dollars? I am not planning on doing any intense gaming or anything with this. Mainly just school.

Opinions?

No for you its not worth it for the i5.

C2D is going to be discontinued here in a month or two iirc, but it doesn't mean they are obsolete. If it's for school and just writing papers, occasional PS use, etc, C2D is fine.

Hi and welcome to the forums. As mentioned if you don't do anything really demanding then your 13" will be good for now and into the future. How fast you need your computer to be really just depends on what you do with it.

FYI upgrading to a faster hard drive when you can afford it is usually the most noticeable speed difference for the average user. Of course you don't have to if you are happy with what you got.

Anyone have any recommendations on hard drives?

P.S. Do I seriously have to type these stupid codes for every post?

Up to a point (think it's 5 or 10).

Seagate Momentus (XT)
Samsung Spinpoint
WD Black

Those are the three hottest (not literally) drives out right now.
