I'm pulling my hair out! Not tech savvy. Ok here's the deal. Have a 5 yr old macbook with snow leopard installed and software updated to 10.6.5. Just purchased (off ebay) a macbook pro. Not sure of age, but it is 2.16 and has 500hd. When I got it, I installed snow leopard and everything worked fine. Then I tried transferring all my old mac to the new mac using a 400 firewire. Had some issues, but then it looked like it went through. But none of it was where it was on my old mac and I couldn't open any of them. It said I wasn't authorized and couldn't find half of it. So after countless hrs of messing with that I started over. Did get some to open, but was still frustrated soo. Did a write zero (quickest one) and reinstalled Snow leopard on new macbook. Tried to do it all over and still can't transfer my stuff. Now when i get to the part where I plug in the firewires and hold down the T and restart. The T shows up on new mac, but it says either "old mac doesn't have os x " or just spins saying "looking for discs" What is going on? Any suggestions?

Try using migration assistant, Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant.

Hope this helps and you will stop pulling your hair out

Thanks, but I already tried using it and got to the same place. I realized I had all my discs for my applications so I just started over and reinstalled and then transferred everything by zip drive. Slow, but it's working. I just need to transfer my itunes and iphotos now. So I should be in good shape. Thanks.

If you have a external hard drive you can copy your music folder from Finder and make a back up on the external hard drive. This might take a while depending on the size of your library.

Don't forget to use the Reputation system on the left. (Second button from the left)

Put your GREY disks in your safety deposit box
