Bought my macbook pro dec 27th 2009.. (unibody)
Yesterday the trackpad failed 2 days out of warranty grrr Don't have applecare due to finances

Trackpad not responding to left click at all, will sometimes respond to repeated clicking in the centre. Sometimes right click. No click and drag.. so am having to use an external mouse for now.

Is there anything I can do? I'm guessing it is likely to be a hardware issue, but could it be a software-reinstall it and make it better- problem?

I have made an appy for the genius bar tomorrow but REALLY don't want to have to pay if there is something I can try at home first.
Thanks for any advice...

Don't stress.... Apple is all about customer service! 2 days out of warranty, they won't treat you like Dell would, and if they do, with a cool head and pleasant manner, if you can't get to speak to a manager, contact Apple's customer relations, and I am certain that all will go well.
Once again, cool head and pleasant manner

I'm guessing that your battery may have expanded, or there has been a liquid spill..... If it is the latter, then you have nothing to go on, but, see what happens tomorrow.

FWIW...A couple of time over the past year, the trackpad on my '09 MBP has stopped working correctly. A shutdown and restart corrected the problem both times. Also, both times I suspect the cause was extreme humidity.

Don't believe anything I tell you, unless it is consistent with what you already know to be true, or unless you have taken the time to research the matter to prove its accuracy to your satisfaction. This is known as "doing your homework."

Thanks for the replies. Definitely no liquid spill whatsoever..no-one else is allowed to touch my macbook as it's my preciousssssss

We have had the extremely odd weather recently...uber cold now uber damp, but the macbook doesn't ever go out to play so I wouldn't have thought that weather could be affecting it. Hasn't been dropped or bumped about either.

Just can't believe it's gone wrong the week the warranty expired!

how do you find out what year you have?

I see a lot of questions being asked and lots of ppl most of the time include the year. I just bought mine maybe a month ago from best buy but unsure what year it could be. I do know it's the new MBP 13"
