I have a mac book pro from 2005/06. One day I turned it on and the screen was black. I can hear it come on still and when I tilt the screen into light I can see whats on it very faint but when facing it straight on It appears black. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

It sounds like the backlight in your display is not functioning. This could be due to a bad backlight (CCFL tube) or the inverter which supplies power to the backlight.

If the backlight itself is bad or burned out, the recommended fix is to replace the entire display assembly since removing and replacing the backlight tube is a difficult job.
