Hey-- I have an iBook G4 that I bought in 2004-2005. I neglected to update the software as it prompted me to (big mistake, I know, lol)

I'm currently running os x 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2. I've been on the apple site trying to update my operating system and nothing seems to be working. They all say "this cannot be installed on your computer" I've tried even downloading os x 10.4.1 and 10.4.2 thinking I could start from close to where I am and work my way up, but nothing is working. I'd really like to update my operating system AND Safari (which can't be updated until the os x is up to date)

Can you please help me? I'm lost as to which direction to go. Thanks!

You can't download OS X anywhere. You have to buy a retail OS X 10.4 or 10.5 Disk.

10.4.1 & 10.4.2...are simply updater files. At the time that these updaters became available...you would have needed to have already purchased a 10.4.0 upgrade install disk for $129. Since 10.4.11 is the last available version of 10.4
(Tiger)...most install disks for 10.4 are probably higher that 10.4.1 or 10.4.2...so you wouldn't even need those updater files.
