Okay, so my iBook charger isn't working at all. First, though only occasionally, it would be charging fine, but the light would remain green, I didn't worry about it. Then, the light remained green all of the time, fully charged or not. Then, occasionally, the charger would stop working (No light) as if it wasn't plugged in. Usually unplugging/replugging it in would bring it back to just the solid green light, but it would charge. Now... I get no response at all, it's DEAD. Absolutely nothing.... Is there any way that I can fix this? Is the iBook not registering the charger properly, or is my charger gone?

Try a new charger first since that's the easiest and least expensive to do.

Define "least expensive" please. Are we talking $50 or $15? Typing this on 6% battery, got to switch over to the desktop now.

Well, I called Staples to see maybe if they had a 3rd party one that would work, but they told me to go to best buy! And there's only 1 in the state. which is over 75 miles away. .... Plus my Mom had the brilliant idea of turning the laptop on, and not shutting it down properly. So now it's stuck in sleep mode, and I can't even get it to shut down by holding the power button. This is turning out to be a disaster.

I hate to tell you this...but we're back to e-Bay again! There are tons & tons of chargers available on e-Bay...you could probably find a replacement for around $20-$30...maybe less if you're lucky. When you're dealing with a 5-6 year-old computer (especially a Macintosh computer)...you just aren't going to find what you need at Best Buy or even at a local Apple Store.

When someone like you doesn't have a a lot of excess cash...and lives in a very rural area...e-Bay is the way to go. I don't live in a very rural area...and I do have "extra" cash for small projects like this...and I still use e-Bay...since I don't like wasting or spending a lot of money on things.

You got to get hooked up with e-Bay!!!

Here's an example of what I'm talking about on e-Bay:

APPLE iBOOK LAPTOP NOTEBOOK 65W AC POWER ADAPTER! - eBay (item 300487473427 end time Nov-06-10 12:12:32 PDT)

Current high bid is $7.71 with $5.79 shipping. There's about 38 minutes left in the auction as of this posting (so the price may or probably will go up)...but this is just one example of many (took me about 15 seconds to find it).

- Nick

Edit: Here's another auction for a brand new one. Buy It Now price of $12.99 + $7.99 shipping:

http://cgi.ebay.com/AC-Power-Charger...ht_1735wt_1141

And yet another one for $12.93 + free shipping:

http://cgi.ebay.com/65-Watt-AC-Power...ht_3389wt_1141

Ugh. Don't I wish I could use e-bay nick. I really do. But Paypal requires what? A credit card? Plus, what happens if the seller never sends you something? You're just out whatever you paid? .... And do you have to give the seller your address? I'm not too keen about that either.

Take a look into the details regarding Paypal. Maybe there's a way to deposit funds ahead of time (sort of like a debit card)...so you can use Paypal for e-Bay transactions.

If the seller doesn't send you your item...you open a dispute with Paypal. If the seller doesn't make things right...Paypal will refund you the money...and go after the seller (assuming Paypal rules in your favor).

Another Mac-Forums member just bought a Powermac G5 off e-Bay...and the nice aluminum housing wasn't in as good a shape as it was advertised. Our Mac-Forums member negotiated a $75 dollar refund/adjustment with the seller. So there are multiple ways to work things out.

Regarding the address. Sure you need to provide your address...otherwise the package cannot be delivered...and many sellers don't want to deliver to P.O. boxes. A seller who lives hundreds or thousands of miles away from you doesn't really care where you live! Believe me...the junk mail you get in your mailbox...or spam/phishing e-mails you get are MUCH more dangerous than a single e-Bay seller sending you an item you've purchased.

If you put up "hurdles & fences" (like not wanting to give out your address)...then you're just digging yourself a hole in terms of the options you have to deal with the outside world when it comes to getting the computer items you want or need.

Well, I'll look into paypal. Maybe there is some sort of a deposit thing. I know that e-bay would be the best option for me. I'll do some more research on it and see what I'll have to do.

P.S. Anybody know how to get the iBook to shut down? It's currently stuck in the (Preserve contents of Memory) sleep mode. And holding the power button is having no effects.

ANYBODY know how to shut the iBook down? It's been in sleep mode for 6 hours (Battery is still going, what a trooper) but what would happen if I just pull the battery? I don't want it to be 110% dead when I get a new charger. ...
