Hey,
I'm looking to upgrade my memory. I've had my macbook for over 4 years (got it before my freshman year in college, the summer of 2006), it currently has 1gb but I'm looking to go to 2gb and perhaps higher if possible. I'm under the impression that the model number is A1181 (it's white 13"). I've seen mixed information as to how much it can hold and one thread (on this site I think) even said the A1181 was made in 2008.

So in brief, I'm looking for answers to the following questions:

What's the maximum memory capacity?

How many memory boards can be installed? (I've seen 2x2GB is possible.)

Is it easy enough to do the installation myself? (I've done it on a Windows desktop for my mom before but never on a Mac/Laptop.)

Is there any other information I may need to know?
QUOTE Thanks

According to wikipedia, that Mac can take 2-4gb of RAM, with only 3 usable. The serial number would provide the most accurate information as possible in order to accurately to tell you the max amount of RAM.

I'm assuming you have one of the first two in the table of models. If you could provide the model number or serial, it would be a lot easier.

Newegg.com - Mushkin Enhanced 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Memory for Apple Notebook Model 976504A (Yes, the link works even tho it has an emoticon in it haha) Would probably be your best bet. And thanks bobtomay for that.

Upgrading RAM in a laptop is easy. Installing MacBook Core Duo RAM - iFixit Should be able to help you.
