Hello Community, i just got a new MBP with 4gb of ram. Beside my plan to get a SSD i found a spare 1gb orig Samsung ram.

See attached image

I watched some youtube videos with ram upgrades and read a few topics. I think this ram is compatible.

Question, is this worth a try to add into my MBP? I guess i have 1x4gb ram now and will have obviously no dual channel ram support if i add the 1xgb ram.

But maybe this gives some application a boost?

Thanks for all input.

Your MacBook Pro has 4 GB of memory configured as thus: 2 x 2 GB modules = 4 GB. Apple does not ship their notebook computers with an open memory slot. Both slots are populated. (dual channel)

So no, you can not add a single module even if it was compatible. You can however, remove the 2 x 2 GB modules and instead purchase 2 x 4 GB modules for a total of 8 GB. Take a look here.
